Radar- and Satellite-based hail detection and climatology for Western Europe
The project will address the following objectives:
1. Create a first complete radar-based hail climatology for France, Switzerland and Northern Italy, including hail swaths per event for more than a decade
2. Design, develop and train geostationary satellite-based hail retrievals using the database created in part 1.
If successful, the satellite model developed in part (ii) will be applied and blended with the radar climatology across the historical archive to develop a spatially homogeneous pan-European hail climatology.
